In the UK the most common sizes are as follows: SINGLE - 3'0 x 6'3 (90cm x 190cm) 3/4 - 4'0 x 6'3 (120cm x 190cm) DOUBLE - 4'6 x 6'3 (135cm x 190cm) KING - 5'0 x 6'6 (150cm x 200cm) SUPERKING - 6'0 x 6'6 (180cm x 200cm) Although these are the standard sizes, you may find that some suppliers offer in between sizes such as extra-long singles or narrow doubles or in some cases custom orders where the bed may be made to your size requirements. In some cases you may just wish to replace a worn out mattress, and while there is nothing to prevent you from doing so it is worth being aware of some important factors. First you must establish the type of base you intend to put your new mattress on, if it is an old divan base check and see if it is a hard topped design or a sprung type, as this will affect how your new mattress will feel also check its condition, as your new mattresses expected to last up to 10 years, you have to ask the question will my old base last another 10 years? If on the other hand your base is a bedstead on bed frame check that it's in good order and also be aware that most bed frames have rigid or semi-rigid surfaces therefore any mattress will tend to feel firmer on this type of base as opposed to a sprung divan base which will allow your mattress to flex more readily to your body shape. Finally check the measurements of your base, as you'd be surprised at the number of people who get their new mattress home only to find they've purchased the wrong size.

In general most beds and mattress are recommended to last in the region of ten years accepting that they were of good quality in the first place. If however the product was a budget priced item then the useful life may be considerably shorter.

It's best to remember that beds are like most products, in so far as, you get what you pay for. It has been our experience that many customers undervalue a good bed and are often reluctant to spend as much as they probably should. Ultimately how much you spend will be dictated by your disposable income, however we would advise you to be influenced by comfort and quality, not price.
